Is it possible to connect the FIREFACE UC with an IPAD?

No. The iPad has no USB connector and cannot install/run the Fireface drivers.

Re: RME FIREFACE UC and IPAD

Please contact Apple... I doubt that the iPad will support installation of any external sound card, though. Ext. USB storage, maybe...

The person from Apple that replied to you must be an idiot.

The iPad will support certain USB DACs via there camera connector adaptor.  But these DACs must work via the standard USB audio driver.  ie) DACs that plug into computers and don't require additional drivers to be installed.

Re: RME FIREFACE UC and IPAD

It seems very much possible for the iPad to work with USB sound cards.  The Sound Devices USBPre 2 can be used as an audio interface with the iPad:

It would be terrific to be able to use my UC to take advantage of the ADAT lightpipe on my UC, for example to interface with a modular analog system with the Expert Sleepers ES-3:

Would such a use be dependent on RME to make a driver, or is this something an independent iOS programmer could do?

thanks,

Re: RME FIREFACE UC and IPAD

I think this is limited to class compliant audio devices, so not possible.

Re: RME FIREFACE UC and IPAD

matthias is right about the class compliant piece regarding the Ipad.  That does leave a lot of possibility though.  I have a Novation Xiosynth 25 and it works as both an audio and midi interface and controller with the Ipad.  The only caveat is that the Xiosynth has to be plugged in because the Ipad puts out VERY low usb  power.   I found a solution for some usb powered devices on Ebay.  It's a rechargeable USB hub that has a lithium battery and a little solar panel.  It'll recharge through usb fully or about halfway via light.  Using this as a hub into the Ipad, I've been able to plug in usb midi devices which previously caused the Ipad to say something like "the attached accessory needs too much power."

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm hoping to be able to use AC-7 in Mackie Control mode on the Ipad to control UFX Total Mix so that using the UFX as a live mixer is somewhat more easily controllable without needing a laptop.
