Topic: HDSP(e) Driver 3.27 Muti-client Mixing ASIO vs. WDM = Pop

HDSP 9632 (Driver 3.27) with 512 Samples Buffer Size (WinXP SP3)

Not sure if the Multiclient Mixing really gives pop-free operation.

Test:

foobar2000 1.1.10 (with ASIO output plugin 2.1)
http://www.foobar2000.org
http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_out_asio

Reaper 4.151
http://www.cockos.com/reaper/download.php

Media Player Classic Homecinema 1.6.1.4026
http://www.xvidvideo.ru/media-player-cl … -4026.html

Windows Media Player 11.0.5721.5280
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de … px?id=8163

-> foobar2000 (or Reaper) output = ADAT 1+2 (ASIO)
-> Media Player Classic (or Windows Media Player) output = SPDIF (DirectSound)

-> both ADAT 1+2 and SPDIF playback channels get routed/submixed to the same hardware outputs in the HDSP Mixer to hear both applications

-> mute Media Player Classic (or Windows Media Player) audio and close application
-> start foobar2000 (or Reaper) playback (48 kHz here)
-> open a file (via doubleclick or context menu in Windows Explorer) with Media Player Classic (or Windows Media Player) (audio still muted)

Result: A pop is heard for a short moment when opening Media Player Classic (or Windows Media Player).

Note: This only happens when opening files via Windows Explorer doubleclick or rightclick context menu. Seems to depend on the played source content in the ASIO application if the pop can be heard from the WDM application. If you don't hear one, try with a different file in foobar2000 (or Reaper) ...

Pop can be seen in the Mixer middle (playback) row on "SPDIF" too.

Doesn't matter if "Optimize Multi-client mixing" is enabled or disabled in DSP Settings. Same result.

Any help?

This is not the way it works. Start both programs, then start/stop audio. Starting a program including its driver initialisation might cause such effects. This even happens with ASIO and ASIO (DC) as you know.

Ok, didn't know that ...

Re: HDSP(e) Driver 3.27 Muti-client Mixing ASIO vs. WDM = Pop

Can this be improved?

HDSP AIO (driver 4.21)

-> internet stream playback (foobar2000 @ outputs "AES1+2" - directsound 48 kHz)
-> open/play video file with empty audio stream in Media Player Classic (@ outputs "Phones" - directsound 48 kHz)

-> close Media Player Classic

Result: Glitch heard most of the time. Doesn't matter if Multi-client mixing is enabled or disabled. Maybe it's slightly better with it enabled but it doesn't solve it 100%.

Is it not possible to make this glitch-free?

Re: HDSP(e) Driver 3.27 Muti-client Mixing ASIO vs. WDM = Pop

Hey there,

I have experienced an issue thats maybe with this related. Having Audacity and VLC Player runnin on two different outputs of an HDSPe MADI FX as WDM devices a sample of e.g. VLC keeps looping and glitching if I stop playback in Audacity or close the application. It seems like they are affecting each other in between 4 stereo devices. Maybe I could take a video and some audio to show the problem and attach it to an answer.

Multi-client mixing seems to minimize the problem but it's not solved - like said before. Without this even two clients playing affected each other.

Running on Windows 7 on Dell Precision Tower 3620 with latest firmware and driver for the HDSPe.
As a conclusion: We have two PCs in this configuration at our studio with this issue.

Best regards, hoping to get the problem solved soon,
Dominik
