Topic: Firewire 400 issue detecting in Windows 7

Hello,

I installed a fresh version of windows 7 64 bit and cannot get my Fireface 400 to even recognize.  The device manager shows everything installed correctly (no yellow warnings) and my via 1394 ohci compliant host controller shows up fine.

Any ideas?  I show the unit powered on when plugged into the firewire slot - but i get nothing.  Bad unit?

Try changing the 1394 OHCI controller to "legacy" drivers via Device Manager and maybe try another cable.

Went out and got a new cable - still not detecting (although it does power the unit)

There is no "legacy" option in the device manager for the firewire

I'm going to try this on another machine and see if i get any luck

Tried the RME on another computer (mac) - works fine there

So the issue lies somewhere with Windows 7 64 bit & the built in VIA® 6308P firewire controller

I tried the "legacy" method mentioned and no luck

Any other suggestions other that having to go out and purchase a PCI Firewire card?

Nope, different FW card should be the answer then.

So went out and got an SIIG (Texas Instrument chipset) - works fine.

I though i remeber a while back RME mentioning TI chipsets were the ones they recommended for Firewire

Either way, the VIA was embedded on the Asus Sabertooth p67 motherboard - which makes it pointless

So moral of the story:

VIA Firewire Chipset - BAD
Texas Instrument Chipset - GOOD
