I just purchased the 802 and have it working but was hoping I'd be able to use my MR816's 8 preamps via adat. I have not been able to make it work. I have a Mackie Onyx 800R that works fine via adat.
Any ideas?
Assuming your 802 is connected to PC ...
Did you set clock of 802 to internal and did you configure MR816 to get clock via ADAT from 802 ?
Do you see on the MR816 that it synced clock to the 802 ?
Did you configure the routing on the MR816 to send Mic Preamp 1..8 to ADAT OUT 1..8 ?

Its possible with the 802, rest is up to you, different product / vendor.
You have many options .. consult the handbook of your device or ask
- your dealer
- Steinberg Support
- Steinberg User Forum.
BTW .. your device has status LEDs on the front to show where it gets clock from... if this rings a bell.
The ADAT light is flashing on the front of the MR816 but not solid. I'll check the Steinberg forum. Thanks for you suggestions.
Maybe try different ADAT port and/or cable.
Ensure that the ADAT port of the 802 is not set to optical SPDIF, usually only ADAT2 is capable of that.
I went to the Steinberg forum and found a solution there and now have it working.

BTW how did you do clock synchronization ? Via ADAT cable or separate WC (Word Clock) cabling ?
Via ADAT would be preferred in this case as it has higher precision
because of RMEs steadyclock mechanism.

I'm using an adat cable. This is weird but it is not working today. Nothing changed, checked all my cables and connections and mr816 settings. I'm baffled.
I'm seeing there is a separate application that allows the MR816 to tightly integrate with Cubase ("MR extensions" in Cubase - from the Steinberg forums)? Is it possible Cubase changed the MR816's clock settings or ADAT/SPDIF format through that interface? Are you even running Cubase/Nuendo?
That's all I got from my seats. Your setup should work fairly well once stabilized...
I am running Cubase 8.0. I have double and triple checked all settings. I'm at a loss. I don't need the extra 8 inputs right now as I do have my mackie onyx 800r working so I have 12 working mic inputs now.

I don't think I have the MR extensions but will check. It's just weird because I had it working yesterday. Turned it on today and it wasn't being recognized by the 802.

If you do not find it easily on your own then I would call Steinberg support by phone.
According to this SOS article the unit shall have stand alone capabilities.
But see chapter advanced integration that this Cubase/Nuendo feature might conflict with MR Editor.

According to the article the device shall be capable to remember its configuration after power cycles.
So maybe you should power down and disconnect firewire connection once the routing works.
Then advanced integration can not change anything on the device.
But I dont know whether you can do everything you need on the front of the unit. "Potentially".
Or .. try to find how to turn off advanced integration as this sounds like a feature that kind of
performs changes in routing automated triggered by your actions in Cubase/Nuendo.
I reinstalled the MR816 tools and got the 802 to recognize the MR816. Then I unattached the firewire cable. We'll see if it holds.
At least I know can always rerun the MR816 tools to make it work.
I think I'll actually try recording something today. I'm normally just a guitarist not an engineer...

Cool. And likely a good solution (leaving MR extensions installed when needed, but the MR816 physically disconnected form the host computer...
