Topic: 12" Macbook (2017) with Original Babyface USB-C

Hi everyone,

I thought I would share my experience with using the new 12" MacBook (2017) 1.3ghz i5.

Obviously this MacBook only has 1 usb-c port and I was curious to see if it would work with my Babyface (original).

I bought the new OWC USB-C Travel dock and connected it to my fully charged MacBook.  I then connected the babyface and it would not power up - not enough power to it as no lights etc would turn on.  I tried using both USB ports (separately and also together at once) on the travel dock with the babyface as well - still no luck.

BUT:  Using the MacBook power supply plugged into the usb-c port on the travel dock with the travel dock plugged into the MacBook, the babyface works flawlessly (using 1 USB port on the dock)!

I'm using the latest drivers and firmware.

I was hoping I could use it as a purely mobile setup if needed but will still need the power supply to run everything.

Tested it with Logic Pro X.

Hopefully this info would be useful for someone maybe.

JT.

Interesting. I too would have expected that it also works without power supply, but the BF Pro would significantly reduce the runtime of the MacBook then.

You can still run this fully mobile by getting one of the two solutions mentioned here to power the BF:

I've got the original babyface not the pro.  Will the solutions in the link apply to me as well?
