Topic: Could a PCIe riser affect the rayDAT performance?

Hello!

I´m now convinced on getting a rayDAT card. I´ve already mentioned here in the forum that I would like to fit it inside a S4-NFC mini ITX Chassis and I want to post this picture for you to see :

As you may see , the rayDAT would have to be fitted using a PCIe x1 Riser , am I right? Cause it has to be fitted horizontally and not vertically as it should normally do...

Now the question is... Could this affect the overall performance of the card? could it add latency? Could it even dont work at all?

If it works... Which riser do you recommend to me? Brands? models?

Also... Could the card be affected by the heat inside the chassis?

Thanks!

Something like this for instance...

Search this forum, several people use riser cards and cable extensions. Still there is no guarantee that this will work, you will have to try it in your specific system.

Here I combined a PCI bridge card with an extension cable. Works well. But I specifically checked the cable for soldering errors before installing it and did find one of the pins being bend/soldered to its neighbor, which I corrected. So take a good look at it if you are using such a ribbon cable.

Which brands do you recommend to me?

Which models or brands? Cable? Riser Card?

Which would provide me with more stability?

Re: Could a PCIe riser affect the rayDAT performance?

Sintech works well for PCI bridge cards, so I expect them to also know how to built proper riser cards. If Startech offers these then I expect them to be good, too.

Ribbon cables are ribbon cables, you will have a hard time finding different ones except for their "brand" names. Just check them closely for improper soldering of their pins or other small damages.

I and I mean literally "I"  would start with a cheap riser card as I expect nothing can co wrong with them. No electronics AFAIK. If that one doesn't work get a brand name.
But a brand name USB3 cable let my USB3 drive run at usb2 speed (but it looked great) And a 2$ ebay one worked fine.

I have one of these cables (which I haven't used) and there are quite a few reports of bad solder joints. Anyone contemplating using one should take a magnifying glass to them and fix any defects before installation.
