Topic: TotalMix routing problems with Digiface

Hi, I just got my first RME interface. I needed grate USB interface that can get my profire2626 work with a laptop without Firewire and now that WIN10 gets buggier with last drivers for 2626 (WIN7).
I have 2 problems encountered with Totalmix that I can't find answers nor in the manual (maybe missed something) or on the internet.
1) https://img3.picload.org/image/ddggrari/totalmixselect.png
As you see no output are highlighted because I can't select any. I don't see any mentions about selecting in the manual but all videos on youtube everyone show how they select output and simply raise the fader of needed HW input or SW playback.

2) HW input 1 is my mic which I can't get panned in center of my headphones (33/34), although it's routing and panning is working for sending to HW output (1/2 in my case) and I have to do routing through matrix since I have the problem mentioned in the first problem. Even with the matrix, I can't get HW input 1 to go to HW output 34 (right ear). The only way I can do that is making HW input 1/2 stereo and pulling with to 0.
And that leads to a different problem - what if mt HW input 2 is guitar and I want it to be on left ear... can't do because now it's in the center (width 0) or only in right ear (same problem as HW input 1 only on another side of stereo).

In given situation, I can't really call it EASY routing nor INFINITY ROUTING what is claimed by RME and I have to do a workaround to make it work. That is my only gripe with it but I must say my mind was blown finding LOOPBACK function, meaning I have a way easier way to get audio for tutorial videos.

Re: TotalMix routing problems with Digiface

You are in "free mode", enter "submix mode".

THEN in "submix mode" you simply click to an "HW output" and can then move the faders as you like for "HW inputs" (top row) and "SW playback channels" (middle row). By this you have as many submixes as you have HW outputs ....

Loopback is easy once you understood it. This is explained nicely in the RME videos.

I don't see any FREE MODE or SUBMIX MODE.

Only Full Mode or Digital Audio Workstation and I'm in Full mode.

See "Routing Mode" in TotalMix FX in the upper right.
From the shapshot that you posted its "clearly visible", that you are in "Free Mode".

I can clearly see that you are in Free Mode.

Thanks, that really was it. Now problem 1) is solved!

Re: TotalMix routing problems with Digiface

No problem, give it some time. Once you got only a few basics TM is absolutely powerful and the best on the market for this purpose.

To put 2 examples

A) I use an UFX+ in my Guitar Rig to
- record my e-guitar with the instrument channel and
- build i.e. a parallel effect loop
- with Durec I can then record and playback guitar for different purposes
a) Find the sweetspot of the 2 Mic's with which I record my guitar
b) re-amping: record a track again with different mics or mic position or amp or effect settings

This is described in another blog article that I wrote:
http://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/inde … arren-Rig/

http://www.tonstudio-forum.de/index.php/Attachment/1859-01-UFX-for-Guitar-Rig-png

B) I used a RME UFX as preamp on a RME RayDAT PCIe card.
I mapped all the analog channels of interest to ADAT channels.
http://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/inde … ME-RayDAT/

http://www.tonstudio-forum.de/index.php/Attachment/1530-02-ADAT-Mapping-etc-png

Maybe another tip upfront... There is a nice way to have some more comfort to open TM FX and the Driver settings dialog with the Function keys of your keyboard.
http://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/inde … ndruck-DE/

C) And finally to optimize your environment
You could i.e. get an ARC USB for your DigiFace USB: http://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/inde … talMix-FX/

Sorry some of these articles are only available in German.

Re: TotalMix routing problems with Digiface

Guys, THANK YOU! Because thanks for pointing out routing mode - Submix also problem 2) is solved.
Dunno why there even is such FREE mode since it's inferior and nonintuitive for routing.

The aim of free mode is according to the TM help pages:

"
3.8 View Options

This area combines different functions of routing, the level meters and the mixer view.

Routing Mode

   • Submix. The Submix view (default) is the preferred view and delivers the quickest overview, operation and understanding of TotalMix. The click on one of the Hardware Output channels selects the respective submix, all other outputs are darkened. At the same time all routing fields are set to this channel. With Submix view, it is very easy to generate a submix for any output: select the output channel, adjust the fader and pans of first and second row - finished.

   • Free. The Free view is for advanced users. It is used to edit several submixes simultaneously, without the need to change between them. Here one works with the routings fields of the input and playback channels only, which then show different routing destinations.

I don't see how it's for advanced users if you can't route input 1 to right ear and input 2 into left ear. And it locks same problem using matrix view which I think should be independent from mixer view and could route as heart pleases.
