Topic: Connect audio monitors to RayDAT and other questions

Hello! just recently got the Raydat Card and it can be a very noob question but I´m not sure of how to connect my pair of Eris 8 speakers to the Raydat card.

I used a focusrite 2i4 before to use my audio monitors. I think I can use this cable to connect my speakers?

https://smhttp-ssl-50970.nexcesscdn.net/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/780x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/r/m/rme_alva_bo968_aes_ebu_breakout_cable.jpg

But the XLR one is male and the other is female... Would I have to get one female to male and one male to male (or a simple extension) to connect them to the speakers?

Secondly...

What about the 3 pin cable? what is that for and where do I connect it?

And third ...

The interface says that I have 2 in/out MIDI channels avalible , but the breakout cable has 4 heads... Why?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Connect audio monitors to RayDAT and other questions

Bad news, the raydat is a digital only card. You can not connect speakers without a digital input to them directly. The picture you show is the spdif and eas/ebu ins and outs (also digital).
And 2 midi ins and out is 4 connectors (2 in 2 out).
You will need DA converter to play back audio and AD converter to record (or a AD/DA converter which does both.
Feel free to ask for advice! Be specific in what you need. And price!

Re: Connect audio monitors to RayDAT and other questions

@vinark: lol, we typed at the same time wink

1- Sorry, but RayDAT is a card with only digital inputs and outputs, like clearly described on product page
in the Box labeled "Connectivity" in the upper right

    36 Inputs / 36 Outputs
    4 x ADAT I/O (up to 192 kHz via S/MUX4)
    1 x AES/EBU I/O (192 kHz)
    1 x SPDIF I/O (192 kHZ)
    2 x MIDI I/O

For this card you need to connect via ADAT
- either an AD/DA converter to get analog INs and OUTs or
- a preamps if you require mic inputs

BTW this was the reason why I ordered my Monitors with digital AES interface to also be able to connect them to the RayDAT when the main interface should be out of the house (mobile use or shall it need repair).

2- You have 2 different MIDI channels, which each of them always consists of IN and OUT, thus together 4 Plugs in total.

I think RME provides 2 different channels here to have 1 dedicated MIDI channel for
a) connecting instruments like master keyboard
b) remote controlling their products like preamps and converters via MIDI using their "RME Midi Remote" control software

Question: did you already buy it ? You should perhaps tell your connection demands here to discuss, whether another RME interface suits your demand better.

You can also have a look at my comparison sheet upfront: https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/index.ph … 017-12-pdf

Shall you need an excellent converter, then the RayDAT can be perfectly combined with an ADI-2 Pro and ARC USB, like shown here in my blog article: https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ind … port-DE-EN

Information about the ADI-2 Pro here (sorry this one only available in german)

Yes , I´ve already bought it and installed it to my PC. But if I have to get an ADAT converter , which one would you suggest to me?

Thanks for answering
