Topic: Routing Tracks from Reaper to Individual Main outs on RME Babyface

Hey all!  First post here and there is some strange reasons for how I finally ended up taking on routing so here is the short.

I use Reaper as my DAW.
I have a Babyface pro as my interface.

I use both in very very crude terms BUT i recently acquired a Tascam Portastudio 424 MK1 (4 track) that I plan to use live.  What I want to do is use audio I have recorded in reaper and take those loops or samples and drop them into individual tracks on the Tascam.

There are two loops in reaper that are synched and what I want to do is send that audio OUT to my Tascam.

Desired Routing:
Reaper Loop 1 - > RME Main Out 1 - > Track 1 Tascam
Reaper Loop 2 - > RME Main Out 2 - > Track 2 Tascam

That way I can simply record into the Tascam with both tracks synched  at the same time.  Does that make sense to anyone here? If not I am a newbie in need of guru guidance.

Thanks again,
James

this might help

https://www.groove3.com/tutorials/RME-T … temid=8930

im having an issue related
in totalmix i have 2 busses (routed to channels 7/8) from my daw, i see their output in totalmix software playback, mono channel AN 7 drums and mono channel AN 8 bass/vocal, great!

the issue is that the hardware outputs channels AN 7 & AN 8 (both mono) play both my busses, 1 & 2 while its clearly routed to 7 and 8 respectively.

as usual im missing that tiny bit of knowledge, anybody has an idea what i should try?

trying to do:
from reaper daw
2 busses out to analog mixer on channels 7&8.

buy the ticket take the ride..

Re: Routing Tracks from Reaper to Individual Main outs on RME Babyface

I wrote a TM FX primer. This should explain the basic concept of routing well to you:
https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ind … rnal-equi/

Here also a RME Tutorial
https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ind … al-Videos/

TotalMix FX is a monitor mixer. For each of the outputs you can easily create a submix.
1. Simply ensure to be in submix mode.
2. Click to a HW output in the bottom row. This shows you directly the routing, simply look at fader positions in top and middle row, which are raised or down.
3. Then adjust the faders of HW inputs and SW playbacks (top/middle row) as you require. Done.

Some other general rules:
A. Signals from inputs always become passed to the application/DAW, no matter whether you mute an input or not. The mute in HW inputs is only relavant for your submix (HW Outputs)
B. Signals from your DAW / Windows applications arrive in the middle row at the SW playback channels.
If you select in your DAW the output "Analog 1/2" for a stereo signal then the signal is being sent to the SW Playback channel Analog 1/2 (middle row)
C. If you want to ensure that SW Playback "Analog 1/2" channel is being routed to HW output "Analog 1/2"
then you follow the steps 1-3 above.

Once you understand these simple basic concepts even complex routings can be broken up into parts.
You must start to think from the perspective of the HW outputs and that TM FX is a monitor mixer design
for operation with your Monitors and Phones.

There is also the routing matrix shall you be more comfortably with that one,
but I personally regard to route in the mixer view in submix mode easier.

The signal flow is this:

If these chanels are set to mono in both Software playback row and Hardware Output row, then there is no pan anymore, and your routing error is as simple as having not pulled down the correct fader in the software playback row.

thank you so much for this explanation ramses.
unfortunately things still dont work, im doing a total reset now and start from scratch again.

1. Simply ensure to be in submix mode. CHECK

2. Click to a HW output in the bottom row. This shows you directly the routing, simply look at fader positions in top and middle row, which are raised or down. CHECK

3. Then adjust the faders of HW inputs and SW playbacks (top/middle row) as you require. Done. CHECK but still no output.

also for some reason channel 9/10 in SWP is controlling my master out.
while i on my main channel i  assigned main out to AN 1/2 only.
in madiface series settings, WDM Devices only analog (1-8) is selected.

i know the problem is my lack of understanding the software which is undoubtedly working and working well once you know it, tho honestly for the semi's and beginners it can be a complete nightmare studying all this while i just want/need to create music.

perhaps what can help a bunch of beginners at least is a series of presets  for totalmix so rme gives us a head start, now im back to total reset and page 1.
once i was a musician now im trying to be a nerd smile

all love!

Re: Routing Tracks from Reaper to Individual Main outs on RME Babyface

You can save at any time your settings...
Save Snapshow, Save Workspace

And a combination of both by doing "Workspace Quickselect" and to save this to any of the 30 slots there.
So you have 30 different settings at your fingertips, easy to recall.
And a workspace saves also 8 Snapshots of your TM FX instance.

See handbook, whats a snapshot, whats a workspace.
