Topic: Bug:Octamic XTC does not reliably learn sample rate via MADI from UFX+

The issue: XTCs do not learn clock properly through MADI from clock master UFX+.

When changing sample rate on UFX+ from 96 to 44.1 kHz, then the XTC sets clock to 88.2 instead of 44.1 kHz.
This is reproduceable.
You need to dial in the proper sample rate on both XTC's manually to fix it, to get 44.1 back.

The setup:
UFX+, 2x XTC connected via MADI.
UFX+ clock master
XTC: clock slave, learns clock via MADI.

Settings on both XTC:
- Clock Source: MADI
- Sample Rate: 44.1k
Saved to Setup 1

Steps to repeat:
- power off both XTC
- select 96 kHz on UFX+
- power on both XTC
- sample rate is learned properly from MADI -> 96 kHz
- NOW .. change sample rate on clock master (UFX+) to 44.1 kHz
- XTC changes sample rate wrongly from 96 to 88.2 kHz, but not to the expected 44.1 kHz

Firmware versions:
UFX+:  v42
XTCs:  v26/47

I trapped over this several times and didnt know where it came from.
Now I took the time to test it from ground up with the results above.

Would be very kind if this could be fixed by RME, many thanks upfront.

Re: Bug:Octamic XTC does not reliably learn sample rate via MADI from UFX+

I see no way to 'fix' this as it comes from the inability of MADI to properly identify its sample rate. MADI 44.1 can also be MADI 88.2 (SMUX).

The only way to fix this would be using an additional word clock connection, or AES as sync source.

OK understood.

Word Clock cabling this way without T-elements ?

UFX+: "WC In Termination" enabled (X)
WC Cable 1: UFX+ WC Out -> XTC1 WC In
WC Cable 2: XTC1 WC Out -> XTC2 WC In
XTC2: "WCK Term In" enabled (X)

Re: Bug:Octamic XTC does not reliably learn sample rate via MADI from UFX+

I performed WC cabling and setup like written above, but it still does not work reliably.
Anything wrong on my side ? Think not. Bug or feature ?

Settings:
UFX+    : clock source: "internal", sample rate set to 44.1
XTC1+2: clock source: "WCK",     sample rate set to 44.1

LED status ok:
UFX+: MADI "green" (lit)
XTC1+2: WC and MADI "green" (lit)

Stored configuration to Settings 2.

Steps to repeat:
1. On UFX+ set clock rate from 44.1 to 96 kHz
Result: UFX+ at 96 kHz, but both XTC change only from 44.1 to 48 kHz, not 96 kHz
Only on XTC1 the MADI LED is blinking (green).
2. On UFX+ set clock rate from 96 to 44.1 kHz
All  devices back to 44.1 and LED status ok

Change from 44.1 to 192 kHz also does not work:
1. On UFX+ set clock rate from 44.1 to 192 kHz
This time all LEDs keep the same "ok" state (MADI and WC show steady green light)
But XTCs only change from 44.1 to 48 kHz, not 192 kHz.

Did you uncheck the 'WC Always Single Speed' option in the UFX+ Settings?

Re: Bug:Octamic XTC does not reliably learn sample rate via MADI from UFX+

I can confirm that I did not activate this option.
