Topic: FireFace 800 - TotalMixFX and Fireface app windows will not "open"

Fireface 800 owner here: (windows 10)

After updating to the latest driver:
Windows 7 to 10 PnP driver for Fireface 400, 800, 802, UCX, UFX, version 3.125

My fireface Application, and TotalMixFX applications are will no longer maximize their display windows once running.

Both applications no longer launch on system boot as well.
But I can launch them manually via
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\fireface.inf_amd64_7513b969e7d1ab72
(an app for each is located therein).

the Icon appears as usual in the bottom tray indicating its running - however left clicking on either icon no longer causes the totalmix window or the fireface settings windows to appear on screen.

I can right click to expose the settings:
New workspace select, New Total Mix window (totalmix) and (settings) for fireface,
And the total mix options will display a popup window, however after selecting anything, the main mixer window still does not appear.
Likewise for the fireface settings, clicking the settings button - nothing appears.

I have two monitors, and I have already tried booting up with one or both and tried each as a primary monitor so I do not believe that the windows are misplaced off screen (however they don't open as usual APP windows so I cannot select it then use the win + arrow keys trick to move the window).

Additional Info:
after uninstalling the RME ARC driver via the Device Manager (under Sound, Video, and game controllers)
And re installing the new driver - no effect

Repeating above and installing the older driver 3.124 (worked previously) - no effect

I have noticed that there are three folders in my C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\

fireface.inf_amd64_27d3d97a791b59c5 - Contains the set of apps + install files + .sys + .dll's (2018-11-16)
fireface.inf_amd64_48afaec23f23b605 - Contains the set of apps + install files + .sys + .dll's (2019-04-11)
fireface.inf_amd64_7513b969e7d1ab72 - Contains the set of apps + install files + .sys + .dll's (2019-04-11)
one difference between 05 and 72 is that the icons for TotalMixFX differ.

I have also tried resetting my PC then installing the latest driver - no luck, and the above fire repository folders persisted through the pc reset.

Did you by any chance modify either of the executable files after install by right-clicking on them (in the actual location of the files in C:\Windows\System32\fireface.exe or TotalMixFX.exe, not the system tray icon) and change their permissions to "Run As Administrator" ?  I made the mistake of doing this once and it prevented them from running at startup.  I turned that option back off, rebooted, and all was good...

Not sure that is your issue, but might take a look at the .exe files anyway just in case...

There are no TotalMixFX or Fireface .exe's in my System32 folder.

I have one TotalMixFX and one Fireface .exe in each of these folders:
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\fireface.inf_amd64_27d3d97a791b59c5
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\fireface.inf_amd64_48afaec23f23b605
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\fireface.inf_amd64_7513b969e7d1ab72

None of these are set to run as admin via compatibility -> Settings

Then your driver update/installation failed. You might want to check your antivirus software etc.

Hmm.
I will troubleshoot the install then.

My process was - Unisntall the old RME driver via the device manager, then run the installer.
No errors and the installer does state that everything is ready for use.

I have no anti virus programs aside from windows defender currently installed, so I am doubtful this would have an impact.
If you have any advice on how Windows Defender might prevent the driver install or if I'm missing an obvious step in the uninstall process please let me know.

Check the file DPINST.LOG in your Windows folder. It includes all the installation details. Maybe the files are in System32 and you use one of these file explorers that doesn't show all files in system folders? Or one that looks in SysWOW64 instead?

Firewire cable is plugged in and nothing seems to be recognized when I disconnect / reconnect on either the pc or fireface end.

Driver for the Firewire port is good.

tried re running the installer and watched my C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\rme folder populate with all of the temp files (looked like everything that should be there), then the install claimed to be successful, and I close the installer.

Only thing I can think of for

is try a different firewire cable? Still... this problem arose when the driver was updated originally, and was working fine prior.

In other words: your FF800 is defective. Try a different FW port, maybe your lucky. Otherwise it's service time...

FW cable is not the issue-
I am going to test it on another PC before following up on service.

Same situation  here, and I haven't other FW device to try the port. How did you resolve your problem? Finally was a FF800 hardware problem?? Can you help mme?
