Topic: Multiface I NO MIDI since update 4.28 drivers

Hi there !
I use a Hammerfall Multiface DSP I pcmcia (Firmware 17) and since I have updated the drivers with the 4.28 version I can't chose "hammerfall MIDI" in the Totalmix settings midi menu  neither in my DAW. Only the "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" appears.
I didn't find anything about this case on the web.
Have you any ideas about this issue?

Thank you by advance, I really have no clue how to solve the problem.

You updated it to the latest Service packs? What was the driver version that worked before on your fresh install?
Try this: In the Settings dialog, enable at least 2 stereo WDM devices and then reboot.'

Re: Multiface I NO MIDI since update 4.28 drivers

I solved my problem.
It did not come from the new RME drivers.
Indeed after installing Windows I disabled some services so that they do not start at Windows startup. And I disabled the Audio Windows service thinking it was useless and potentially conflictual with the Hammerfall drivers. After reactivating it the Hammerfall MIDI is available again in my DAW.

Thanx very much for your attention.
Have a nice day smile

Re: Multiface I NO MIDI since update 4.28 drivers

By the way, do you think I should update to the last Service packs ?
For now this is the SP1 (which is I think the only for Windows 7) but I disabled the Windows Update service cause I'm not confident with this but maybe it's not a good idea.
Thanks by advance.

Re: Multiface I NO MIDI since update 4.28 drivers

Customize Windows update to install only important updates, so that you get only important and security updates.
But wait until the issues with the last updates from April updates are resolved.

Re: Multiface I NO MIDI since update 4.28 drivers

Thanx for the information !
That's exactly why I don't want to use the windows update service.

My computer is not destinated to be connected to the internet but could you tell me how to know which updates are really importants and/or about security?

Re: Multiface I NO MIDI since update 4.28 drivers

As I said you customize windows update to install ONLY important updates.
Its a switch in the settings which you can toggle.
The classification / preselection, which update is important and which is a security upgrade  is being done by Microsoft.

Re: Multiface I NO MIDI since update 4.28 drivers

yw .. but you should also configure to be only informed about updates, to be able to control on your own, when it's safe to perform the upgrade.

Because every month, when Microsoft releases a collection of patches, it can happen that bad patches are included, like last month. Then it's better to be able to wait until they fixed the issues.

A good strategy is to have a good backup / restore strategy to be prepared for whatever can happen.

I can strongly recommend Macrium Reflext. It enables me to restore to the previous day or week within < 10min,
although my Terabyte SSD is filled with around 640 GB of data.
It's possible by their so called "rapid delta restore" mechanism, which is so fast because it changes only those disk blocks,
that need a change. During such OS upgrades only a few things are being changed, therefore the speed.
And this also nicely reduces the "wear" on your SSD(s).

Macrium Reflect is very reliable. The company regularly delivers smaller apparently well-tested maintenance upgrades that I've never experienced instability with in the past 3-4 years. Also no issues with major release upgrades.

I also think it's good that they just focus on the backup topic. I've seen so many programs in the past that supposedly want to do 20 other things, but they just turn it into error-prone bloatware.
