Topic: New PC and UFX+

Hello Guys,

I am doing an upgrade on my system and finally decided to go with a PC Computer, Windows 10 and Cubase 10.

So this is the build I'm looking for:

- i9 - 9900k overclock to something arrround 4.8ghz with Noctua U12A or D15S cooler
- Gigabyte Designare Z390 which have the intel's GC Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 Controller
- 64 Corsair LPX 3000mhz RAM
- M.2 Samsung 970 EvoPlus 1T
- Radeon RX580 4g or 8g GUI
- Cooler Master SL600M Case
- Corsair PSU 850 Gold or Platinum (don't know how much difference it could make..)

My RME is the UFX+ and intent to use it on thunderbolt 3 port through Startech (Which I assuming is better right?) Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter.

My questions, not to say worries, are concerning to the mother-board:

- Does anyone knows if Thunderbolt 3 Titan Ridge Controler UNDER Designare BIOS will be compatible and work flawless?
- If doens't work at all, anyone knows a better mother board model to suggest in this price/setup form range?
- Any advice? I meant, I'm stucked with the i9 but I'm still open to the rest of configuration.

Thank you very much

Re: New PC and UFX+

I have the Designare Z390 and the i9900k - and using it with my UFX+.
Folks on the web were saying that the Designare Z390 would not connect with the UFX+ using Thunderbolt.  And at first that seemed to be the case.
With the UFX+ connected via the Startech adapter the Intel Thunderbolt GUI would not open so the Thunderbolt connection process could not be completed.  So I experimented with the set up several days and came up with the ideal of opening the Intel Thunderbolt GUI interface without the UFX+ being connected to the computer.  With the Intel Thunderbolt GUI already open I then connected the UFX+ and it appeared in a Port of the Intel Thunderbolt GUI and it was that simple to get it functioning.  It has been working with no problems at all since March 14th.

UFX+ x2 ; Babyface Pro x2; UFX Original;  Windows 10 64 bit ; Intel core i9 9900KS CPU; 64 Gig DDR4

Re: New PC and UFX+

Many Thanks RuffRider,

I see that you are using, almost the same configuration that I'm searching for.
Is it everything working flawles?  I meant, are you able to run multiple instances of VSTis Channels, like synths, Samples,  plugins without dropouts or audio crashes/pops/crackles etc... And with buffer size at 32ms?

For the price I can get 2013 Mac Pro 8 core Xeon 25MB L3 Cache  with 64MB and 2T SSD. Based on your experience, do you feel that MOBO and System is ultimate for using UFX+ ?

Regards!

Re: New PC and UFX+

For comparison, if the mainboard is fine in terms of DPC latencies..

With an older mainboard / CPU combination using USB3 you can expect this performance:

My hardware: https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ind … mponenten/

On this system I could driver two UFX+ and one ADI-2 Pro without issues.

Re: New PC and UFX+

Thank once more Ramses,

This Supermicro Setup was a little more expensive in Brazil then i9 PC "Gamer".

But for my needs I think this should run almost like yours, I guess.
I going to do less tracks, but maybe with more have VST plugins and Soft Synths per channel, which requires more CPU Clock/Power.

and even through thunderbolt adapter maybe thunderbolt can run a faster performance than USB3.0. But if not, I problably will use the on board USB 3.1 from MOBO. Which I think it's ok no, once it is intel, and solded on MOBO.

Re: New PC and UFX+

Just try. The Thunderbolt driver gives you also the pitch function on top.

In regards to USB 3.1 gen2 in USB3 compat mode:

I can confirm, that my UFX+ worked fine even on this USB 3.1 ASMedia adapter
StarTech Dual Port USB 3.1 Karte - 10 Gbit/s per Port - 2x USB-A - PCIe, ASM2142 (PEXUSB311A2)

Re: New PC and UFX+

That's great news!
Cause the manual says that ASmedia Constroler not supported by UFX+.
But, if Thunderbolt doens't work I will try the onboard Designare Intel's  USB 3.1.
If it not work flawless, than I go to the PCIe Sonnet even the one which have 1 controler. That's ok, I just need one port.
So it might work. When I finnish building then I post a feedback here.

Thank again!

Re: New PC and UFX+

If I remember right it has been mentione on the forum that the remark in the handbook refers mainly to ASMedia USB3 chips. But I would not be too sure, whether all USB 3.1 chips work.
Just try as you have plenty of options and yes the Sonnet card is phantastic using MSI interrupt model in the driver.

Re: New PC and UFX+

Hey there

a related topic ,
in case anyone's got some insight:

Would that motherboard (Z390 Designare) support a firewirecard successfully.

I'm still rockin my good ol' FF800,

and want it to survive a computer upgrade to this mainboard.

thx

Re: New PC and UFX+

Its a different topic, this thread is about new PC and UFX+.

And what I do not understand, why you are worried about firewire card and AMD mainboard ?

Its more a question of
- getting the proper card with a good TI chip (not XIO2200A !!) e.g.: TI XIO2213
  -> https://www.heise.de/preisvergleich/exs … 75938.html
- to get working Firewire driver in Windows 10
  -> https://www.studio1productions.com/Arti … wire-1.htm

Otherwise all mainboards offer PCIe slots for a PCIe firewire card.
