Topic: RME Fireface 802 - is *midi* multi-client?

Hi there,

As far as I know, the Fireace 802 is multi-client capable.  For audio, you are able to share the interface , between multiple instances.

I am wondering if the same can be said about the 'midi' portion of the interface?  I am wanting to use my Fireface 802 in Cubase and use a standalone patch editor for my Roland JV-1080, using Ctrlr.  You cannot access the same ports in Ctrlr, if your host is also assigned these ports, as an error will be thrown, that the ports cannot be opened, as they are already in use.  The only way to get around this, is by using an interface that has multi-client midi capabilities.  Being on Windows 10, this is a problem, as it wont' share devices between multiple apps, like Mac does.

Is the midi portion of the interface/drivers, multi-client enabled, so I can share the same ports simultaneously, between multiple applications?

Thanks so much, for any insight into this.

All our interfaces with MIDI ports are multi-client capable.

hmm, ok thanks.  I guess I will have to try something different.  I could get the audio ports to work as multi-client, but not the midi ports.  If they are open in one app, they won't work in another, as they are 'already tied up'.

This is by default enabled, nothing I need to do on my end?

Thanks again MC

Yes, it should just work.

Thanks a lot MC, I guess the problem is on my end and I will have to sort it out.  I just wanted confirmation that the audio and midi drivers, were in fact multi-client, so I could rule that out.

With you doing that, I will move along now.  Thanks again for your prompt and courteous reply.
