Topic: Switching monitors between XLR and AES ?

I read the manual, and I read the forums thru and thru, and I just cannot be sure if this is doable: to have two pairs of monitor loudspeakers (one with regular XLR analog input and one with digital AES input) hooked to ADI-2 Pro, and switch between them?
By switch I mean, of course, listening to one pair while second is muted and vice versa; and doing that with the single push of a button (knob).
I'm sorry if this is already answered somewhere, I did my best to search the forum.

Re: Switching monitors between XLR and AES ?

If you can find setups where only either of the outputs (Line Out 1/2 or AES) is active, you can store these in separate setups and load them via the remap keys function (p. 26). This requires the use of two buttons though.

However, whether this is possible depends on how you want to route the signals in the ADI-2 Pro, i.e. what inputs, outputs and device mode are. Check the manual p. 34-40.

Re: Switching monitors between XLR and AES ?

The ADIs have not been designed for this kind of usage, they either work for one speaker pair, or two if the other one is connected via the front headphone out 1/2 or 3/4. Workarounds via loading Setups might give a similar but not optimal functionality.

Re: Switching monitors between XLR and AES ?

Ok, It‘s not that critical for me to have "one push of a button" (optimal) functionality, it is most  important that it can be done, and there is no sound degradation. Can it be streamlined a bit in some new fw? I‘m pretty sure I‘m not the only one who would like to have simple A/B monitor switch, being aware of all that sophisticated I/O network already inside ADIs.
Thank you for answers, much appreciated.

Re: Switching monitors between XLR and AES ?

For an A/B switch the rear TRS output must have its own mute function which doesn't exist. And TRS should be balanced - not the case either. As I said, it's not designed for that.

If you use the front outputs for the second monitor the functionality is already there.

Oh, and I missed the topic - AES. Well, mutes for the digital outputs are not possible because they don't even exist within the menu. That would be some serious rework to add such functionality, I don't think that makes sense for us.

Re: Switching monitors between XLR and AES ?

Well, ok than, front outputs will have to suffice.
Thanks again.
