Topic: ADI 2 Pro usage as a preamp and real time sound processing interface

Hi,

I'm interested by the coming ADI 2 Pro, to be used as a real time audio processor.

Use case is that I would like to
- connect my turntable (analogue input), TV (optical), Tuner (coax), and Mac Mini (USB)
- process the sound with Dirac Live running on my Mac
- output the result to my active monitors using the balanced analogue outs.

Is this use case supported? I.e:

1/ Does the ADI 2 Pro support multiple inputs as an interface with mixing capabilities?
2/ How the input detection will work in that case? Will the interface switch to the latest active input? Can auto selection be disabled?
3/ Is it possible to route inputs to front and rear analogue outputs separately?
4/ Is TotalMix supported?

And subsidiary question: are IR remotes supported?

Thanks!

Re: ADI 2 Pro usage as a preamp and real time sound processing interface

1. Yes. But there is no 'mixing' in the interface.
2. You have to manually select the correct audio channel in your Mac's processing software.
3. 8 output channels in total. Preferably done in your Mac's software.
4. No TotalMix because no mixing at all.
5. No remote support.

Re: ADI 2 Pro usage as a preamp and real time sound processing interface

Thank you for the quick reply.

Will there be an app provided by RME to control the interface on Mac (volume/input selection/sampling rate...)?

Regarding point 2/, how the auto mode works exactly? The interface switches to the last active input?

Re: ADI 2 Pro usage as a preamp and real time sound processing interface

1. No. It's all in the Mac already.
2. Auto Mode changes the internal operation (and routing) depending on connected I/Os between 3 fixed modes: Analog Preamp (nothing digital connected), AD/DA converter (ADAT, AES or SPDIF conected) and USB interface, which has priority.

When Adi2Pro will be available?

Re: ADI 2 Pro usage as a preamp and real time sound processing interface

As it looks right now the summer holidays cause a delay in the ADI-2 Pro's initial shipment, to end of September. I will start a special ADI-2 Pro thread in this forum as soon as we have exact dates.

Thanks MC
About the price,more or less?

It more or less doesn't matter. Once you know ALL the details you want to have it. No way out...

Re: ADI 2 Pro usage as a preamp and real time sound processing interface

This is obviously very exciting...

When you say analog preamp mode, does that mean the unit has a microphone preamp stage?

No microphone input.

Re: ADI 2 Pro usage as a preamp and real time sound processing interface

If there is no TotalMix, how do ADAT channels get allocated? Does that also mean only one input source at a time (aka cannot mix USB input and ADAT together?)
There is earlier mention of using mac to control parameters. Is Windows supported as well?

Thanks!
Dustin

Your question is unclear - what is 'USB input'? Also read the other posts in this thread.

Hi Mr. Carstens

I'm not sure if there is another way to say it, but the connection labelled USB 2.0 (I assume this is a class-compliant USB input from a computer source, no?)

I'll go back a re-read the above posts.

Are you able to say whether or not it will be Mac and Windows compatible?
Do the analog outputs mute when headphones are plugged in?
I also assume there will be trim for the headphones considering the stated power specifications?
