Topic: Fireface UFX+ New PC hardware recommendation. Please.

Hi,

I’m going to update my Windows 10 PC. Could you help me?
Any specific component recommendation? Motherboard, memory, Processor…
Budget around 1000€. I have RME Fireface UFX+
I would like a system that can work with Thunderbolt and/or USB3.

As Intel plans to make Thunderbolt Part of CPU I would perhaps wait for the new designs / CPUs.
Dont remember whether any timeline has been told. Maybe browse the internet.

Thanks Ramses, but it’s “urgent”… my old CPU is burned out and “I can’t wait”…
If the system work well with USB3, it’s OK for me.

The only recommendation that I can give to you is to take a proven system.
Eventually from people who sell DAW HW.

I can only offer my system, other mainboards and components can cause issues, you never know.

The problem is, the components are more expensive.

Also a good idea is perhaps to buy a board which is still compatible to Windows 7 to have a plan B.

Thunderbolt is not required. I found out for myself USB3 is compareable / sufficient in performance.
Makes it potentially easier for you to find a board.

If you need more USB3 ports, then take this card:

This chipset is supported, see UFX+ handbook.
For Win7 there are stable drivers, in Win10 support directly included into OS.
