Topic: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

Hello everyone smile

I recently (yesterday) bought a babyface pro as i want to record my songs.

I have to say i'm pretty new to CAM. I've plugged my guitar in IN3 but i have no sound at all... Channel 3:4 is selected but whenever i try to play my guitar in Cubase 5 or Bias Fx i cannot hear my guitar. All i can hear is my voice (is there some kind of microphone tyo the babyface pro ?)

Sorry for all these questions, i really am a true beginner. I've tried to find some tutorials for this beauty but couldnt find any that would help me. I've tried reading the manual but i still didnt get it...

Could someone please help me ? I feel frustrated and sad not being able to use this interface

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

i guess my question is way too complicated and no one can figure it out... thank you anyway rme community !

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

You did not give much info to allow us to help. What is CAM? Do you use a Mac or Windows computer? Ch 3/4 selected where exactly?

There is no built-in mic on the Babyface, but mic preamps are on ch 1 & 2. If you hear your voice it sounds like you don't have the Babyface set as the audio input device, and you may be picking up the built in mic of the laptop instead.

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

Thank you for your answer Jeff smile
CAM is computer aided music. I'm using a PC, windows 7. as for the channel 3 i dont know i put my guitar directly in the "in3" input as i thought it was plug and play. So i can clearly see a signal when im playing but no sound so i assume there is to do with total mix ? im so lost.. i had it for 2 days and havent been able to use it yet..

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

Not a TotalMix problem, seems like the software you're using is not configured to use the Babyface.

If you see signal on TotalMix for the channel then the input is working. Check your software settings for the audio device and track/channel input, make sure that you set the software to use "ASIO Fireface USB" and your input is set to #3.

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

Devices -> Device Setup -> VST Audio System

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

The picture above your last post is the Cubase setup page, nothing to do with RME applications.

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

For that you will need to route the input to your Phones out or Main out in Totalmix. Technical info in the manual, and we have video tutorials on Youtube.

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

well ive checked all these videos and went through the manual. I even tried all possible channels and i still have no sound... I guess i will ahve to wait for a french translation of the manual.. i really cant get it to work...

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

Click on the output (bottom row) where you want to hear the signal. For example if you want to send it to Phones out, click on the Ph 3/4 channel. When selected it's highlighted. Then just pull up the fader on the input channel and you will hear it.

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

Your local RME distributor should be able to provide support. In France that is Audio Technica.

i'm sorry but what is an air cable ? is it a pun or a real question ? Anyhow i don't know why it was not working on channels 1/2 but it is on phones. I guess that all that matters is that its working smile

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

That was not a pun question. I only wanted to understand you correctly what the key issue was.

With "Air Cable" I meant a non-existing cable, similar to the term "air guitar", if poeple are only posing as if they play guitar.
Is this not a common term for this in your Language ? Ok then sorry.

Ok, again, what you said sounded as if you forgot to plug the monitors to Analog Out 1/2 of the Babyface and then wondered why they didnt work, as you forgot the cabling. I could not imagine that this was really the issue and wanted to question back whether this was really the issue, missing cables or whether I misunderstood you.

oh ok i see thank you for the explanation smile i didnt forget to plug any cables, i just plugged it to phones and also selected the "talkback" button in totalmix and that made a difference

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

ok so back at it, didnt feel like making a new topic, but now i can hear my guitar through totalmix, i just cant play it in cubase or bias fx, could someone please guide me ? i think ive done all correct settings in cubase, so the problem is probably totalmix, i really have issues with that soft. not really user friendly when you are new to computer aided music

Re: Babyface Pro, Cubase 5

If you can hear cubase playback it us not totalmix but a cubase setup. Playing through cubase is quite difficult until you get it and you go ah like that. Anyway don't forget to tick the monitor button on the channel with the guitar fX and make sure the guitar is routed to that channel.
