Topic: HDSPe AIO / (DIY) DB15 cable phasing issues

Hey guys, I've got a problem with my cable setup and I want to learn what is happening.
So I've got cables coming directly out of the DB15 into my monitors.
I've sketched out the pinout diagram using the hdspe manual as a reference.
I wired pos/neg d-sub to pos/neg XLR into Neumann KH120s.
I've grounded both the wire and d-sub, on the d-sub end i've actually soldered a jumper wire to the ground of the cable and soldered that on the d-sub itself.
Anyway, not sure if that's good practice for grounding but the ground was fairly thick.
Moving on..
I hooked up the XLR's to my monitors and played a song.
To my surprise the imaging was completely off but when I hit the phase switch on Totalmix for my monitors, it was back to normal.
Can anyone ELI5 this?
Would be greatly appreciated.

Then you must have exchanged XLR pin 2 and 3 in one of the two cables...
