Topic: UFX ADAT2 OUT AES/SPDIF: no Sound on AVR Yamaha RX-V2400

Hi

I try to send the UFX output to a Yamaha receiver RX-V-2400 on either TOSLINK (optical) or AES/SPDIF coaxial.
Yamaha has both.

Setup:
Source: CD-Player with TOSLINK and SPDIF (coaxial).

RME: input on "AES Input" (Firefac USB settings) routed in Totalmix: here optical  (set to "ADAT2" TOSLINK) or set to "AES/EBU" works, with an adapter. I get the signal of the CD player into UFX.

I route the signal to all ADAT outputs (just to be sure I do not miss one)

1) Then "ADAT2 OUT "set to "ADAT", TOSLINK (optical) connected to Yamaha RX-V2400 input. Does not work

2) ADAT2 OUT set to AES/SPDIF: Input SPDIF on Yamaha does not work. I checked the Adaptercable, XLR Pin2 to RCA TIP. XLR Pin3 to RCA Ground. XLR Pin1 floating (NC)

AES Output: set to Consumer (tried as well Professional , same result)

I tried different sampling rates: 44.1k, 96k

I checked the CD-Players TOSLINK and SPDIF by connecting to Yamaha. Both work. I hera the singnal of the CD-Player in  the Yamaha.

Cables: optical and electrical okay. Ouptut and input (TOSLINK and SPDIF of CD-Player and Yamaha okay.

Now what may be the problem. Some incompatiblity of the UFX output?

ADAT2 Out on TOSLINK: this optical signal is compatible with SPDIF optical (2 channel stereo)?
ADAT2 Out on SPDIF coaxial: with an adapter and set on consumer shoukld work, is there someting else to check?

Version: Totalmix: 1.43, FW: 1.61, Driver 1.099.0

Connect the optical outputs of the UFX back to its own inputs (Clock Mode on Internal) and see what happens...

Re: UFX ADAT2 OUT AES/SPDIF: no Sound on AVR Yamaha RX-V2400

Hi

I connected ADAT2_OUT to ADAT1_IN (optical).

Signal on ADAT9/10, ADAT11/12, ADAT13/14, ADAT15/16  (outputs) produce now signal  on  (Inputs) ADAT1/2, ADAT 3/4, ADAT 5/6, ADAT 7/8

Clock: internal
ADAT2_Out: ADAT

That works.

ADAT obviously works. May be the signal the Yamaha expects is SPDIf optical (just Stereo, not Multichannel)

Oh, sorry, I overlooked the simple fact that this is an AV-Receiver... :-(
Yes, you can only connect SPDIF, these units don't know what ADAT is...

Re: UFX ADAT2 OUT AES/SPDIF: no Sound on AVR Yamaha RX-V2400

Yes Yamaha inputs is consumer stereo on SPDIF optical and SPDIF coaxial.

The output form UFX in Position:
ADAT2_OUT set on: "ADAT" is what? Multichannel ADAT format on TOSLINK (optical) I guess? Right
On AES/EBU output: no signal

ADAT2_OUT set on: "AES/SPDIF" is what? I assume consumer stereo on AES/EBU electrical? Right? Wrong?
This I expected to work.
(On optical TOSLINK I expect no signal in this case)

Re: UFX ADAT2 OUT AES/SPDIF: no Sound on AVR Yamaha RX-V2400

How could I do a workaround?
Digiface: ADAT in , Consumer SPDIF on Toslink out?

Back to post 2: use that setup and check the output signal by looking at the input signal with DIGICheck's Channel Status.

Re: UFX ADAT2 OUT AES/SPDIF: no Sound on AVR Yamaha RX-V2400

Solved
________________
What was the problem?:
Setup was wrong in Totalmix.
There was no signal on AES Output (in Digicheck, output )

first I had to correct my setup.
In "Hardware Playback" AES was not showing up.
I had assigned AES to Main that was the reason.

Now I dis-assigned AES to main (assigned An1/2 to main).

AES Output  is showing up in "Hardare Playback"
In Digicheck I get a signal on AES Output.
Now it works! with the Yamaha (consumer equipment)

I noted, that "ADAT2OUT" must be se to AES/SPDIF then TOSLINK (optical) and AES/EBU coaxial has a stereo signal.

"AES Output" must be to "consumer" for the Yamaha to work.

Thanks for the support, the tip with Digicheck is great.
