Topic: RME ADI-8 Pro 2018 suggestion / design

Hi, my first post here.

I would like to ask the RME team and the forum members about a possible 8 channel version of the ADI Pro.
Are there any plans to make an 8 channel version?
For me personally it would be a perfect solution and i'm sure for many others too.

MY wishlist / suggestions for such a card would be:
High end DAC (could be high end conversion just for the first 2 channels, and the other 6 can have UFX conversion to keep it affordable as possible)
The same front panel as the ADI-2 DAC with spectral analyzer and loudness meter for the main output 1-2. (basically the same look and functions for the main outputs as the ADI-2 DAC.
8 analog inputs with level meter display (not as thin as the UFX) and menu buttons + volume control for the inputs, something like Apogee Ensemble.
And the rest of the good stuff from RME just like the UFX II interface (a low latency USB 3 interface would be great)
Black panel!

Is it too much to ask or there is hope?
What do you think about the design? would you buy something like this?
Is there any way to upload a picture directly to this post?

Re: RME ADI-8 Pro 2018 suggestion / design

@RME: pls. correct me if I'm wrong with my assumptions ;-)

As nice and interesting something like this would be, I personally think, that something like this will not happen:
1. it would require most likely huge FPGA processing power
2. it would become most likely too expensive for 1 single unit
3. maybe even too complex, as the ADI-2 Pro has a lot if functionality built-in

Then it also might become very hard to be sold for a high price, because then there will people who say, well, but for my use cases its missing this and that. Nobody would buy a very expensive device, if there are still things missing.

Therefore, maybe its better to keep it modular and every component optimized for a certain use case
and still at a decent and affordable price.

So to say ... get a recording interface of your choice and put the ADI-2 * in front of it, like shown here: https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ind … our-Setup/

https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/index.php/Attachment/2254-RME-ADI-2-Pro-AE-DAC-Integration-into-your-setup-jpg/

I did it the same way with an UFX+, 2 XTC and then the ADI-2 Pro for highest quality conversion on top.

If you read this forum more regulary then you would have noticed that i.e. FPGA processing power is always a certain limitation for device design "you can never get enough of that". I think there is also such a comment in the ADI-2 Pro handbook if I remember right.

Therefore its not possible i.e. to integrate the PEQ into UFX * and its also not possible to integrate TM FX into ADI-2 Pro.

I think you get the best of the 2 worlds by combining such 2 units as shown by me in the blog article.

Thats then the advantage of RME devices, if you pick the proper one, that your solution can grow.

Of course the ADI-2 Pro can also be put into the front of a full blown MADI solution.
Simply take an UFX+ and add 8 Octamic XTC to it.

Or integrate it to big solution like shown on RME Website, MADI Info Center:
