Topic: TotalMix FX Gain control issues

Hi RME users,

My chain is RODE K2 Mic => UCX input 1 => Logic pro X
I'm monitoring input in TotalMix FX

Im having a small problem where my gain for my microphone is set at a good level in TMFX, Phones set to 00
but when i playback the recorded signal from logic the signal is coming in super-hot. No plugins enabled. Software monitoring disabled. Im not sure whats going wrong, I have a hunch its something i'm not doing right in TMFX. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated smile

Re: TotalMix FX Gain control issues

Pls take a reasonable level for phones .. 0 dB is usually much too loud !
Maybe find a reasonable listening level by simply listening to music (CD tracks, etc).

Once you have done this, save this level in each of your snapshots, that its basically not more than that.

If you are recording via Mic and want to have a proper submix in phones then

1. take care that you enable phantom power if needed for the Mic
2. use a reasonable input gain with some safety buffer, not to come over 0dB (distortion)
As your recording device (UCX) supports Autoset I recommend to set the Gain high and letting Autoset find the proper gain. After that you might want to deactivate Autoset or keep it on, your decision.
3. in submix mode click to phones output and use the fader of the Mic input to create a proper submix for you where the mic input has the voluem that you prefer (without altering the gain settings).
