Topic: Safe to use new hdspe_x86-412 driver with Multiface II?

My Multiface II is still working well with my Mac Pro running OS 10.12.8. But last fall, when I ran an updated driver, a number of problems occurred, especially with Total Mix and I had to reinstall an older version. So before attempting to install the newest driver released in February, I was wondering if it is safe to do so? Has this driver the new Total Mix been tested with the Multiface II and has anyone installed it and found it works? My main concern is really the new version of Total Mix that is included.

Re: Safe to use new hdspe_x86-412 driver with Multiface II?

I am on windows and use same age cards as the multiface (hdsp9632 and 9652) and the latest drivers and totalmix work fine. If you don't use totalmix a lot, why update but I really like the new totalmix.

From the read me of the mac driver:
Attention!
Before using the HDSPe driver for the Multiface/Digiface/RPM you have to delete the previous driver (hdsp_173_x86) manually, if it is installed. Move the following files from the Finder into the trash:

- /System/Library/Extensions/HammerfallDSP.kext
- /Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers/Hammerfall DSP MIDI.plugin
- Programs/Hammerfall DSP Settings
- Programs/Hammerfall DSP Mixer

If you didn't do this last time it might be the cause.

You can also use a cheap adat AD/DA converter and attach your extra gear (4X stereo) the analogue way. In practice there will be no audible difference.

Re: Safe to use new hdspe_x86-412 driver with Multiface II?

Thank you very much vinark for the helpful advice. No, I didn't uninstall the previous driver last time so am now wondering if that might have affected Total Mix. I must admit to not understanding Total Mix as well as I should either, so perhaps it may indeed be better to just leave things alone. smile Still curious though as to whether or not the new driver is deemed to be suitable for my device and Mac system. Cheers.

RME is reliable in its info and they deem it suitable from 10.5 and yes the problem will be with totalmix if you don`t uninstall properly.
If you don`t need it and therefore seldom use totalmix it can be daunting. If like me you need it it is the best and once you get it is a submix system, very easy.
