Topic: Lock / Sync Question

Hi there ,

Please do not lough too loud-it is a question from hi-fi fan with more biological than technical background.

My new (second) ADI 2 DAC plays since last week in my attic fed over spdif/coax by my old T+A CD 1220 R and over spdif/optical by Sony TV Set.
I would like to understand the difference between lock and sync status shown in State Overview. AFAIU both sources act as masters and deliver digital signal to DAC. Why this distinction to sync by coax input and lock by optical ?

Since I do use another RME ADI DAC 2 (since 6 month) with MBP / Audirvana / DAC / Poweramp  I always saw conn. status in Overview and now this new setup made me curious.

Would be happy about some explanation.

BTW - I love this beautiful machines .

Re: Lock / Sync Question

You understood correctly but did not reach the final conclusuion: if both units are free-running clock master, how can the ADI then sync to both simultaneously? It can't, sync works only to one of them (the one set as current audio input source). The other one is therefore LOCK only - valid input signal but no phase-accurate SYNC.

Re: Lock / Sync Question

Thanks MC

It is so simple. I should have seen this. Lock - angeschlossen. Sync - angeschlossen und in Betrieb.
Now I am home.
