Topic: multiface cardbus to adapters to windows thunderbolt 3...

Has anyone managed to get a multiface cardbus unit to work with windows 10 PC thunderbolt 3?  I think the adapter chain would be something like:

multiface cardbus -->

cardbus-to-expresscard/34 adapter  -->

Sonnettech Echo Pro (https://www.sonnettech.com/product/echo … rbolt.html) -->

Thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 adapter (like this: https://www.amazon.com/Thunderbolt-Adap … 019FPJDQ2) -->

PC thunderbolt 3 (usb-C connector)

??

I currently am using the cardbus -> expresscard adapter, and it's working fine.

If this works, are the data bits tired after they go through all those adapters?  Or are all the cables a fatal tripping hazard?

Matthias, it looks (in this thread: https://www.forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=29047 ) like you are running something similar, minus the cardbus -> Express34 adapter.  Do you have a rough idea of how much latency those adapters (Sonnettech and TB2-to-TB3) add to VSTi performance (specifically, midi in to Multiface to computer, and then audio out)?  Are we talking milliseconds or microseconds?

Thanks...

Ifaik none. Processing is done in buffers. So the latency is the buffer plus converters for outputs. Transport latency for the buffer is irrelevant. That's why you have buffers. The whole real-time experience is an illusion.
On the midi input side every midi note takes at least 1ms because it.s serial data on a low bandwidth system. The adapters you mention are much much faster then midi. So irrelevant.
Hope this helps.
