Topic: White noise & RMS on Digicheck

Hi,

Two questions Please:

1. I noticed that there are 3 db RMS difference between wavelab & Digicheck meters though the peak meters are identical!

In details:
Playing back -20 dB RMS white noise stereo file in wavelab reading -20 dB RMS with 15.2dB peak level using wavelab Level Meter.
On digicheck it reads -17 dB RMS and 15.2 dB peak level!

My question: Why are these two RMS meters not identical? Is there something wrong with my settings?

I like RME Digicheck a lot and would like to use it all the time, but I want to see calibrated values.

2. Is the fireface 400 calibrated to give 0VU = -18 dBFS or -20 dBFS

Sorry if it sounds like a noob questions! Any help is much appreciated.

Re: White noise & RMS on Digicheck

You forgot to activate the RMS +3 dB setting in WaveLab.

There is no 0 VU. The reference levels are explained in detail in the manual.

Re: White noise & RMS on Digicheck

1. based on AES17 standard, in WaveLab 6
"Use AES17 standard for RMS values
This relates to how RMS values are calculated: the level for a full scale sine wave can either be -3dB (unchecked), or 0dB (checked) to follow the AES17 standard."
found under Options / Preferences / General tab

in DigiCheck found under Options / Settings / Level Meter Setup
RMS +3dB

so it's possible to setup level to match in both DigiCheck and WaveLab

2. check manual
